About Vet At Your Door

We're a locally owned, veterinarian-owned mobile veterinary practice serving communities across Maine. Our mission is to bring high-quality, compassionate care directly into the home, where pets are most comfortable.

 

We follow a "One Team" model, meaning you'll consistently work with the same technician and you’ll have the same clients and patients whom you will grow close with over time. This creates better care for patients and a more enjoyable, team-oriented work environment.

 

We are planning to transition to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) within the next three years, giving our team a real stake in the future of the company.

At Vet At Your Door, you're not juggling packed schedules or bouncing between rooms. You'll have the time and space to connect with your patients, build trust with clients, and practice thoughtful medicine.You'll work with the same small team every day, a dedicated technician and a small client liaison team, so everything runs smoothly and you're fully supported.No chaos. What Your Day Looks Like

  • Travel locally to see patients in their homes

  • Work side-by-side with your dedicated technician

  • Your client liaisons handle scheduling, reminders, and triage of client communications

  • End-of-life and quality-of-life care

 

Schedule, Flexible by Design

  • Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays - choose from eight, ten or twelve hour shifts.

  • Launch from home or from one of our offices, depending on your location.

  • Base salary + production with no negative accrual (part time or full time)

Vet At Your Door is a housecall veterinary practice built around genuine connection and proactive, lifelong care. Our mission is to deliver an exceptional and deeply personal veterinary experience where every pet and person feels genuinely cared for by a dedicated team who thrives in their work.

We were founded in 2015 by Dr Deirdre Frey. We have been privately owned and servicing the communities of Maine ever since. We are in the process of converting to an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) with the goal of being 100% employee owned within 3 yrs.

A day in the life: Imagine starting your day with a teammate you know and trust: your dedicated veterinary technician, checking in with your client liaison, and heading out to see pets who’ve grown up with you. These aren't rushed appointments in loud lobbies; they’re calm, meaningful visits in the place pets are most comfortable: their homes.

​

You’ll see 6–7 households a day, mostly familiar clients who consider you part of the family, and occasionally new ones eager to build that same long-term relationship. Your cases might include managing chronic conditions, performing diagnostics, talking through treatment options, or helping a family say goodbye to their beloved companion. It’s full-spectrum care with the time and connection to do it right.

You’re part of a One Team: the same veterinary technician, the same client liaison—your team—every day, seeing YOUR clients. Your liaison fields calls, manages communication, and keeps your day flowing so you can focus on what you love: the medicine, the relationships, the moments that matter.

By around 4:00 PM, you’re finishing up your day and heading home, maybe with a thank-you card or some fresh eggs from a grateful client who appreciates the superior level of care you provide.

 

Schedule: Week days only; no nights, no weekends, no on call. We are passionate about work/life boundaries. Employees working 32 hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits.

Pay: Competitive salary + twice yearly bonuses. 

​

Benefits and Perks: We pay 80% of your health, 75% of your vision & dental and your coverage begins on the 1st of the month after your start date. You get 3 weeks of PTO until year 5, then 4 weeks thereafter, as well as 9 paid holidays and a floating holiday (if you wouldn’t otherwise work on that holiday), and 3 sick days per year. For CE we offer 2 paid days off and an allowance of $2500 per year. We match 3% of a Simple IRA. We also pay for your life insurance plan and short/long-term disability. We reimburse for your DEA and DVM license renewals, your PLIT insurance, and your Fear Free, MVMA, AVMA,  and VIN memberships and offer a uniform allowance. For your family pets we offer a discount for our services and a discount for pet food.

Veterinary Technician - Mobile House Call Practice

Vet At Your Door (VAYD) is a veterinarian-owned house call practice bringing exceptional veterinary care directly into homes across Maine. We were built on a simple idea: pets and their people do better when care comes to them.


We're privately owned and working toward something bigger - becoming the first veterinary company in the country to reach 100% employee ownership through an ESOP within the next three years. That means real, tangible stakes for every team member in the success we build together, not just a paycheck.


This position centers on relationship-building: pairing gentle, skilled patient handling with clear client education so families walk away feeling informed and reassured. You'll assist with wellness appointments that sometimes incorporate complementary approaches - acupuncture, cold laser therapy, and other integrative techniques - alongside conventional medicine, all aimed at keeping patients calm and comfortable in their own environment.

 

Because you'll be working in clients' homes rather than a clinic, independent judgment and strong self-direction matter a great deal. We're seeking someone thorough, flexible, and genuinely energized by connecting with people and their animals.

What You'll Need:

  • Veterinary Technician license in Maine (preferred - experience considered in lieu of licensure)

  • At least 4 years of hands-on clinical experience

  • A calm, confident, compassionate presence when working in someone's home

  • Strong organizational habits and attention to detail

  • Dependability, curiosity, and solid communication skills
