DOG
VACCINATIONS

At Vet At Your Door, we understand the crucial role vaccinations play in your dog's health. As a dedicated team of veterinarians, we bring our expertise directly to your home, ensuring your canine friend receives the best care without the stress of a clinic visit. Our approach to dog vaccinations is tailored to each pet's unique needs, focusing on their well-being and long-term health.

What vaccinations are essential for my dog?

At Vet At Your Door, we ensure your dog receives essential core vaccines like Rabies, Distemper, Parvovirus, and Adenovirus (Canine Hepatitis). The latter three are usually combined into the commonly known name "Canine Distemper".  Based on your dog’s lifestyle, we may also recommend non-core vaccines, such as Bordetella, Leptospirosis, and Lyme disease, to provide comprehensive protection against various diseases.

How often should my dog be vaccinated?

We tailor the vaccination schedule to each dog's specific needs. Puppies usually begin vaccinations at 6-8 weeks, with boosters every 3-4 weeks until about 16 weeks old. Adult dogs typically require boosters every 1-3 years. We'll work with you to create an optimal schedule for your dog.

Are there any side effects of dog vaccinations?

While most dogs handle vaccinations well, some may experience mild side effects like soreness or lethargy. These usually resolve in 1-2 days. While rare, sometimes facial swelling and analphylatic reactions can occur, but are easily treated if they are addressed quickly.  We're here to address any concerns you may have and ensure your dog’s comfort and safety post-vaccination.

Can puppies receive vaccinations?

Puppies certainly need vaccinations, and we start their vaccination series from around 6-8 weeks of age. This series is crucial for building their immunity and protecting them as they grow.

Do older dogs need vaccinations?

Yes, older healthy dogs should still get their vaccinations. We assess each senior dog's health and lifestyle to adjust their vaccination protocol, ensuring they receive necessary protection without over-vaccination.

How do vaccinations protect my dog's health?

Vaccinations are a key part of preventive health care. We use them to stimulate your dog's immune system against diseases, effectively preventing illness and maintaining their overall health.

Is there a risk of over-vaccination in dogs?

At Vet At Your Door, we carefully evaluate each dog's specific needs to avoid over-vaccination. We recommend only the necessary vaccines, ensuring your dog stays healthy and safe. If you are concerned, we can perform vaccine titers for Distemper and Parvo virus, which is a blood test, to check for adequate immunity without giving the vaccine.

Can dog vaccinations prevent zoonotic diseases?

We provide vaccinations like the rabies vaccine, which are vital in preventing diseases that can be transmitted from dogs to humans. This is part of our commitment to protecting not just your pet, but also your family and community.

What is the cost of dog vaccinations?

The cost varies depending on the vaccines your dog needs. We provide transparent pricing and can offer a personalized quote during your consultation. Investing in vaccinations is a cost-effective way to prevent more serious health issues.

How do you handle dogs scared of needles?

We understand that some dogs are anxious about vaccinations. Our team is certified Fear Free and uses gentle, calming techniques to ensure a stress-free experience. If needed, we can discuss additional options like mild sedation for your dog's comfort.
